Chisholm believes that all students can be successful when a realistic educational plan is developed and when the implementation of the plan includes individual academic and personal accommodations or strategies. Chisholm Academy is a full time, comprehensive high school that provides students with the support and encouragement they need to successfully complete high school and to develop a positive self image. Class sizes are limited to a maximum of twelve students in Grades 9 and 10 and fifteen students in Grades 11 and 12. Our facilities include a modern state of the art building with science, art, technology and athletic centres. As a Ministry of Education Inspected Private School, the Academy offers a wide range of approved courses. A Learning Strategies course is also offered to prepare the students for the demands of studying and successful learning. In addition, a Literacy course prepares students for the Literacy Test which they must pass as a diploma requirement. A comprehensive Co-operative Education program extends the students’ experience beyond the classroom. Chisholm offers a dynamic learning environment which provides students with the opportunity to consider a variety of post-secondary options. Teaching strategies are aimed at enhancing attention and reducing frustration. The last ten minutes of every class are devoted to recap, organization and completion of a daily agenda. The day’s activities and assigned homework are outlined on our website each evening. Students may attend extra sessions daily to receive support with assignments and homework. In addition to certified teachers, our well-trained staff includes Psychologists, Psychological Associates, Psycho-educational Consultants, Special Education Teachers, Curriculum Consultants and a Consulting Physician. All staff have continuous training in the areas of special education and curriculum. Students enjoy attending the Academy. We provide an extensive extra curricular program during the lunch period as well as after school. Ninety-five percent of our graduates were accepted into the post-secondary program of their choice. |
